The NY Times Headlines daily email always has several links to videos. They used to play automatically when selected; but for the last couple of weeks they do not. I only get the Times video frame, but the area where the video should play just remains black. I have no problem seeing videos on YouTube, Facebook, etc. I also see the Times videos when I link to them in Internet Explorer; but they will not play in Firefox. As far as I know my Flash, Java, etc. are all up to date. Please advise! Thanks.

Chosen solution

If you use extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) that can block content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Flash Block, Ghostery) then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
