Recently I have found most of the videos on Weather.Com will not play. I have searched the web for answers but have found none. I have the most current version of Flash Player and have tried just about everything else to resolve the issue. It has to be either a Firefox or Adobe issue. The reason I say this is because the videos play fine on IE 11. I run Windows 7 Professional 64 bit and have Firefox 25. Videos do play fine on Fox News and other websites. This is not an unique issue as even the Weather Channel has a page indicating that some are having issues. I run two desktops and the one was playing the videos in Firefox 25 and I have them both configured the same. I say was because I noticed while the videos did play windows 7 could not down load updates and defender would not run. Once I reloaded Windows 7 the videos stopped playing on weather.com. I have already spent several hours trying to trouble shoot the problem and I can use IE but I would rather not. When I try a video on Weather.com a white box opens up but there is no video. Strangely, I am able to get animation on their weather maps.

Hi,

There was a block to a add-on called Hola that was updated by Youtube recently that was causing a number of crashes.

[Bug 941892]

Please let us know if the crashing, though you did not mention a crash. If you can let us know what steps you did take to try to troubleshoot, this will be helpful. Though on that website, the platform, brightcove syncs with youtube, so this might have been the issue, but if it still not playing:

Two things to try if you have not already A. Hardware acceleration

  1. Right click the video and click on "Settings..."
  2. Click on "Enable hardware acceleration"

B. Safemode this will troubleshoot if its a plugin or add on causing the issue: Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

FirefoxSafeMode

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode" Safe Mode Fx 15 - Win

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

Thank you. Happy to help if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the help and information. I wondered why I went through a period where videos sometimes would crash. I tried trouble shooting it but never had any luck. Then the problem went away.

The problem I had this time did not involve any crashes but the video would not start up in Weather.com. I used your suggestion of going into safe mode and from there tracked the problem down to a plugin from Avast anti-virus software. When I disabled it the videos were back. I tried to find out what needed changing in Avast but never did resolve the issue. The Plugin is Avast! Online Security 9.0.2006.53.

Thanks for the help!! Lou

I couldn't get weather.com video's either. For me, the culprit was simply to click on the adblock plus icon and stop it from blocking on weather.com.

The video's worked in an instant.
