Windows 8.1 is still in testing stage, so it's more or less obvious that compatibility, performance, and stability issues could be experiencing while trying out the OS update.

It now appears that some users are not allowed to launch Firefox and Chrome on their computers after installing Windows 8.1 Preview, so the built-in IE11 remains the only option when it comes to browsing the web.

Hi Mohammed. Thanks very much for replying. I think I sort of knew this might be the problem but was hopung it wasn't. I was wondering if you could also help me another problem.. Both my wife and I upgraded to Win8.1 and whilst she has had no problems at all, I also can't use my Windows Live Mail. yet, my wife can. We both installed by express intiallation so it has left me puzzled as to why I can't use it. All the settings, etc., are unchanged. Any ideas? Thanks heaps. KEITH

How do I choose me default downloader in Firefox? I have checked that Flashnd it is enabled in the add-ons, although it doesn't show an options box like FlashGot has. (It was suggested in one forum to use FlashGot to get it working but I can't even see how to do this)

I have just gone through the very, very annoying process of installing Win8.1 and then spending all day on the phone to the Philippines trying to get Win8.1 to work only to then go back to Win8 losing all my files and programs and emails and documents as a result. Now I have paid for an upgrade to me download manager because I had tried upgrading the manager trying to get it to work on Win8.1 when there was no point to it in the first place.

I have firefox 25 and windows 8.1. Just recently when viewing www.usatoday.com I can't get any video's to display. Also on the left side of articles is a facebook/twitter/email/conversation icons. When I click on the conversation icon it opens but shows no comments. Even thou it says that it has 44 entries. This problem also occurs in Chrome. But works in internet explorer. Also firefox 25 works on windows 7 pro on another system.

I have Firefox version 25. I just updated to Win 8.1 from Win 8. Before that, I had no problems with Firefox. Now as soon as the upgrade and restart was done, I have trouble with Firefox. I keep having blacking out of tabs, and the upper region of the screen. (toolbar, and the Netcraft toolbar) Sometimes you can minimize your screen, and it will come back. It will run good for a few minutes, then black out more spots. I tried IE and it is not doing this. (at least while I was trying that one out) My main browser is Firefox. I have a desktop computer. No problems until the dreaded "update". It also messed up Comodo Firewall, and my Tweaking.com Registry Backup. I finally got that straight. I don't want to delete Firefox, and re-download it. I had to do that for the Tweaking.com program. This was no minor update. Good grief what a mess.

11-11-13 Update. Now I see my right click in Firefox doesn't work either, when I try to copy a url, so I can paste it to another tab. IE works just fine in that area.

11-12-13 Firefox started blacking out a little on the tab area again. It didn't happen until I tried to start Stickies by Zhorn Software. I decided to delete Stickies, then redownload it. But they add remove programs won't open. Right after that, the black out started again. I did a test on my video last night, it all passed.

I downloaded the next beta Firefox. That seems to have straightened out the mess for me.

See above post from me. Update 11-12-13. It started messing up again after using the computer for over an hour this morning. (the blacked out areas)

hello, maybe that's an issue with hardware acceleration - please try updating your graphics driver, or in case this doesn't solve the issue or there is no new version available at the moment, disable hardware acceleration in firefox > options > advanced > general.

Once your chipset and then hd graphic drivers are updated, it will make it right for you. I finally got mine cleared up. But it took a tech to help, because the Intel HD Graphics driver failed from manufacturer site. We have to go to the INTEL site to get the same file. Now Win 8.1 says the Intel driver needs updating, even though we got the most updated driver straight from INTEL. (and it is installed) Anyway, it cleared up my problem dramatically. I am sure it will help you too.
