It wants me to update. I don't want to lose the active tabs that I have up. What are the alternatives?

You shouldn't lose those tabs, but just in case I would recommend using Bookmark All Tabs.

Right-click a Tab and select Bookmark All Tabs, then name the folder. If you do lose those Tabs after the update, right-click that folder and use Open All in Tabs.

You can also make a backup copy of the sessionstore.js file in the Firefox profile folder.
