When I export a new bookmarks.html file, it disappears after a few seconds
When I go to "show all bookmarks", "Import & Backup" and "Export Bookmarks to an HTML" It does it properly and I can see that it went to where I specified, but disappears after about 5 seconds and cannot be found anywhere on the drive. I have searched with the Win7 search feature and nothing turns up. As a note, I have "Show Hidden Files" enabled so I can see all files & folders on the drive.
Is this a version 24 bug, or do I need to change a setting somewhere. I am using the latest versions of Java 7.40 & Flash 11.8.
P.S. I've even tried the backup feature but it won't create the .JSON file. I'm running Win7-64, Office 2010 Pro-64 and assorted misc programs. Is Firefox ever going to be made as a 64 bit program?
Please help!!

I exported my bookmarks to my desktop (FX 24, win 8) and the file is there - the last 10 minutes or so.
Where are you trying to export them to? What name are you using?
Thanks SMO...but no. I tried to export it to my root directory, C: and my downloads, Desktop, Documents and anywhere else I could think off. I always leave the filename as "bookmarks.html" and I even saved it to a flash drive and an external drive. I saw them on the drives and within 5 seconds they were gone and couldn't be relocated or explained. (Now I know how frustrated the people at Area 51 must have felt) In a process of elimination, I decided that it's not where I save it...they all disappear, so I'm wondering what happens from the time they are created to a few seconds after they hit the destination? There must be a setting gone awry somewhere on my system. I checked all the settings in the Firefox "Options" and "Configuration Mania" but could see anything about the problem. Any other thoughts?
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
- On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
- On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
- Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.
Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.
Did you make sure that your anti-virus software isn't removing this file?
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes saving this file work.
Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
reanti-virus software ... removing this file
hint: if this is the case and the antivirus software is serious, respectable variety, the file you are missing should be quarantined somewhere on your system.
