The only way I can fix this is to reboot. I have tried resetting FF with no result, I also tried the trouble shooting in FF, but I didn't have any "print.print_printer" in my config:about, also checked "prefs.js" and no "print". This just started about 2 weeks ago. After a reboot, everything works for a short while and then goes back. No events from this.

That preference was replaced by print_printer.

Sorry, the support documentation is a bit outdated. I am filing a report to correct that right now.

If resetting print_printer doesn't solve your issues, try resetting all the printer_ preferences for that printer, and that's like 30 prefs, and see how that works.

Don't have any print_printer preferences. Used to, but there all gone. Whoops! they are all back for my default printer after I pulled up a print command. (right now the print command is working, but we'll see if it stays working)

Nope, the problem resurfaced again. Won't print.

Reset all Printer.Preferences. Didn't work. Right now, pressing print button results in only "ding".

Was going to try disabling one add-on at a time, but restarting FireFox to do that, results in temporarily fixing the problem so I can't diagnose it. ???????????????????

At this point I would usually recommend the Firefox Safe Mode, but that disables all extensions, and after that troubleshooting becomes trial and error. My 'gut' says you have a few extensions that look suspicious.

Try disabling these extensions, and use Firefox normally for awhile.

Fasterfox Lite 3.9.9Lite
Free Download Manager plugin 1.5.8
Garmin Communicator 4.0.4
IE Tab 2 (FF 3.6+) 4.12.22.2

I removed Fasterfox Lite 3.9.9Lite and IE Tab 2 (FF 3.6+) 4.12.22.2 , but I use the Garmin and Free Download, but I still have the problem. It is so hard to troubleshoot because it takes a while for the problem to rear it's ugly head.

I recommended disabling those 4 extensions, not removing any of them. You need to start somewhere with a systematic troubleshooting procedure.

AFAIK, that Garmin Communicator add-on is only need when your Garmin device is plugged in for an update, and the Free Download Manager plugin extension shouldn't be needed for 'surfing'.

Another approach that could take, would be to create a new "test" Profile.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
Use the new Profile as installed to verify that your problem is related to your current Profile.

Another new symptom: Rebooted computer for a non related cause, and loaded FF (using Session Manager like always) and tried to print something and got the dreaded "ding". Restarted FF with the restart button, and print now works again. Too bad the event viewer doesn't show anything.

Oh, I have disabled the other two addons you suggested.

I could just use the restart button as a temp fix, but one of the PayPal shipping labels is where I first ran on to this problem, and I don't know if restarting FF would kick me out of the label print page. I guess I'll find out if it happens that way again.

I just love erratic problems. Kind of like troubleshooting an engine problem that won't happen everytime.

I have this problem too, and did a reset a few days ago. Now I have re-added a few addons, but because of the way this symptom happens so erratically, don't know when it started again. One new symptom that I noticed, I also use "session manager to reload my pages and the other day, it loaded a number of them in which only one page wouldn't print.
