Have you opened that packaged to see if the XPI package is inside?

I'm curious where you got something labeled as an extension, but inside a tar.gz package? I wouldn't rename it without knowing what it contained.

That might be like picking up a backpack that you found under a park bench. Although an unattended backpack might hurt you a lot worse.

You would need to open that tarball with a archive manager such as 7-zip, and extract a possible XPI.

I did open it up, on the outside its just a tar.gz, but on the inside its a tar.tar. Wtf? You would think an addon as big as firebug lite would be easy to install right?

What kind of file are you trying to install?

You may have downloaded the source code for some application or extension instead of the XPI file.

Where did you download this from? AMO addons come in .xpi files.

Hello, that was really confusing, but I got it all figured out now. I'm not sure why he had the file I downloaded posted there, nor what its for, but it wasn't the actual installer. Weird. The reason I couldn't find any download links anywhere was because it was something I have never heard of til today: a bookmarklet. Thank you for all your help
