My computer has been turned off for almost a year. When reconnecting, refreshing, updating, etc, everything that needs to be done on the computer, i come across the problem of firefox acting as though I did not update anything. I've followed all the prompts and directions from every site, for say Flash for example, and no matter how many times I run the update program, over in firefox the page never changes from the prompt telling me to upgrade the program. The program doesn't seem to update, even though I just told it to update. It's doing this with multiple programs. Please help me. What do I do?

Try downloading an installer from the plugin company's website.

Are you running the Mozilla Plugin Check?

Is the button you are pushing next to the plugin red, yellow, green, or blue?

I am running the plugin check, it only shows one problem plug in, even though many are not responding or working. The problem plugin that shows up is VLC web plugin, and I have clicked on the red link to the main site. I have downloaded everything directly from there, and it still acts like I never installed the new version. I've even gone and deleted old versions (where I could find I was allowed to do so) to try and counter-act the problem.

This is not a Firefox issue.

The VLC Player doesn't properly update the plugin, so Firefox thinks that it is still outdated. The issue should be fixed by the VideoLAN Organization soon.

Continue running Firefox without worrying about the plugin. It should still run fine.

Okay, that explains that plug in. But not any of the others. Thank you for helping me strike this one off the list at least though.

Oh it's like a message board, not nesting comments. Sorry. I'm stupid sometimes when I'm frustrated.

Waka I did that, and it is still not working. I checked with Flash first and it still will not show that I updated Flash, despite getting the page from the Adobe site that I had competed installing adobe flash. I checked by going to several websites and they all tell me I still need to upgrade my flash player.

also your troubleshooting info shows a user.js file, can you delete that? read the link below.

Okay, tried that, I cannot get beyond step four. There is no folder to get into.

Dont open the file, delete it, forgot to state that.

Still wont accept flash as installed.

(I will have to come back to this, I have a hospital level emergency to see to. I will be back online as soon as possible to fix this. Thank you for your help I will see you tomorrow hopefully.)

Firefox needs a 32 bit Flash version.

You can find the latest Flash player versions for Firefox on this page.

Try to delete the pluginreg.dat file in the Firefox Profile Folder and maybe addons.sqlite as well to reset the plugin registry databases.

See Re-initializing the plugins database:

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

Thank you! I don't know exactly which of these fixed the problem, but after turning my computer off to go to the hospital, then returning home later, I found that everything worked just as it should again.

Now my only problem is with my damn Wacom Bamboo tablet and Bamboo Dock program refusing to work properly, but, that's not a firefox issue so. I suppose I'll try to fine the help place like this one at the Wacom site or something,...

I'm rambling, sorry. Thank you all so much again.
