Some sites will not load until I clear "Active Logins", which only fixes it for a short time.

On some sites, I get a "The connection was reset" error. I have gone through numerous other help pages and fixes, but nothing fixes it for long. It only happens on some sites (Google and Facebook for example).

I've narrowed it down a bit, so that when I clear the "Active Logins", everything works just fine for a little while (maybe 5 mins), but then it stops working again.

Any idea what's wrong and how to fix it? Thanks!

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • Open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

Please report back soon.

Thanks ComputerWhiz, I tried that, and no luck. Same thing happens - works ok for a couple minutes, then stops loading those pages until I clear the Active Logins again.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Thanks for all your help. Sorry for the delay, I ran a bunch of scans from different programs and found nothing out of the ordinary. I also uninstalled and reinstalled a few times. I also tried running a 'portable' version off a flash drive. Everything seems to have the same issue.

So, at this point, I've kind of given up. I've now installed Chrome, and everything seems to work ok.

Thanks again for trying to help me out.

I am sorry to see that you are leaving the Firefox community.

You may be able to find an add-on to automatically clear your active logins from our Add-on Center.

If you wish to just continue using Google Chrome, I wish you the best and would like to apologize for not being able to solve your issue for you.
