After installing the Security and Java Update 2013-001 for my Mac , Firefox (nor Chrome) will load pages. Safari is fine. Upon opening Firefox, it loads one page but after that, any and all sites just show "connecting" on the tabs for several minutes until I close the program. Nothing has worked. I tried resetting. Please Help!

Most pages do not use Java, so simply updating the Java plugin shouldn't have a drastic effect on Firefox. In fact, you can disable the Java plugin in Firefox to rule out an interaction there:

Tools menu > Add-ons > Plugins category

You might also check for any Java-related extensions here:

Tools menu > Add-ons > Extensions category

Assuming that doesn't help, could you also try Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference?
