If I click on a PDF link, the adobe reader is started. (I disabled the internal reader) But everytime a new empty and unused tab is opened, which I have to close after finishing with Adobe reader. Very annoying if you use it a lot... Is it possible to block the opening of this new tab?

Regards, Peter.

I would update your Adobe PDF plug-in first - it is 10.1.7.x and my version says 11.3.x) To do this, go to the Mozilla Plugin Check site.

Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions. If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow Update button or a red Update now button, please update these immediately.

To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

Hi Amitshree:

Hi can you try this ad-on https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/

I do not see any connection whatsoever between the problem Arco has and the AdBlock plus add-on. Can you enlighten me?

I updated Adobe, and things are a little better. But still a blank window is opened in de current tab, which I have to close after I finish reading with Adobe. I have no clue why a blank window is opened...

For me, it depends on whether I use Ctrl+click or Shift+click to launch the PDF, or I just click to launch it. If I just click, Firefox detects that the PDF is opening externally and closes the blank tab/window for me. However, if I "force" the link to a new tab or window using Ctrl+click or Shift+click, then Firefox doesn't close it. Do you see that pattern, or do you always get a blank tab regardless?

I just double-click the link to the PDF. It opens the PDF and a blank unused window, which doesn't close on exiting adobe reader...

You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the about:config page to disable the build-in PDF viewer.

You can check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref on the about:config page and remove the application/pdf part if present or reset the pref to the default via the right-click context menu.
