The question says it all. I am unable to click links that expand to show either a menu or additional content. For instance, on my banking site I cannot click links that would show me my account/profile, or to transfer funds. On the verizonwireless site, I must set my location/zip code to shop for a new phone but the submit button is not executing. I have tried for days, I have disabled and even uninstalled add-ons that I thought might be interfering.

In addition to this, I have had to disable security when browsing due to some sort of conflict resulting in extremely long hangs and a lot of lag when loading pages as well as when scrolling and typing. This happened only in ff, not in chrome or opera.

I <3 ff. Please help me remedy this.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Thank you but I am running on a brand new computer, running win8. I scan daily and have security. I suppose it could be malware, but aside from some extensions that I have installed from mozilla.org I don't think this is the case.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.
