Hi garyd11, thank you for the crash reports, and to zantag, apologies for all the email notifications. (You can turn them off using the Question Tools to the right of your original post if it gets to be too much.)

You didn't mention the kinds of sites where this problem happens, but here are some general suggestions to start with.

Disable Hardware Acceleration

Graphics card driver issues were mentioned in the bugs associated with one of your crash reports. Since incompatibilities can cause crashes and other issues, it's a good idea to turn off Firefox's use of hardware acceleration.

You usually need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"

Then restart Firefox.

Minimize Flash Issues

This is some standard guidance that addresses the most common issues. I'm sure you've seen some of it before, but just in case:

(1) Make sure all recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them.

(2) Disable hardware graphics acceleration in Firefox and in Flash

(A) In Firefox, see earlier section above

(3) Disable protected mode (Windows Vista/7/8)

Do you notice any improvement in stability after 24-48 hours?

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • Open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

I think that updating Firefox may also fix some of the crashing issues.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
