Chosen solution

There is a problem on Windows 8 with Firefox 19 and AMD Radeon HD 6XXX/7XXX graphic display cards.

This issue is currently being investigated in bug 830531 (please do not comment in bug reports).

  • bug 830531 - [Win8] crash in XPC_WN_Helper_NewResolve mainly with AMD Radeon HD 6290/6310/6320/7290/7310/7340

If you have one of those display cards then best is to stay with or downgrade to Firefox 18.0.2 for now or try the Firefox 20 beta version that doesn't seem to be affected.

Now my Firefox fails and closes also with other webs like Facebook. It seems the problem is between Firefox and Windows 8.

Which error message do you get?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Sorry for the delay of the answer. The message I get (translated from catalan with my poor english):

"Sorry Firefox had a problem and failed. It will try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts. To help us diagnose and solve the problem, you can send us a crash report." Then, two options: Restart Firefox or Exit.

It seems that starting with safe mode has not resolved the problem. Thanks for your help!

Firefox still fails. By the way, there is an extension named "Bubble dock" (by "Nosibay") that I think I have installed involuntarily. Can it be the problem? If yes, how can I uninstall it?

That means that Firefox has crashed.

If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more crash reports that have this format:

  • bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page.

  • You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website.
