my 19" monitor stopped working,I purchased a new HP 20" monitor. Now when I open firefox the content of my home page (yahoo) loads as if I had a small monitor.
Also, any other website I have on my address bar does the same. The content does not fill the entire display area.I can zoom in and fill the page, but when I return home all of the content is centered in the middle of the page, with approx.2" to 3" on either side just white space.I have adjusted the resolution,to no avail.I have vista 64 Home premium on a gateway GT5404 desktop,I have updated the chipset drivers still no help.Is it something with mozzila or my computer. Thanks for any help.

Your new monitor might be much higher resolution than the old one...
Most websites do not allow the content to expand to an infinite width, both because long lines are unreadable and because their layouts would be trashed. The best approach is to use zoom.
However, Firefox remembers your zoom preference on a site-by-site basis. So this is a lot of clicking or Ctrl+'ing or wheel-scrolling.
You can "zoom" all sites to a certain default level using an add-on such as one of these:
After setting your Global zoom level, you can still fine-tune the zoom on individual sites using Firefox's standard zoom feature (keyboard shortcut or mouse wheel).
Does that help?
Modified
Firefox also has toolbar zoom buttons and the extensions also add their own toolbar zoom buttons.
If Firefox doesn't detect the screen dimensions properly with the new monitor then check for problems with the localstore.rdf file.
