Any attempt to use "google" within Firefox 15 or 16 on my laptop returns a page full of symbols. All other pages and sites that I visit work just fine. The kind of symbols I see ...a subset of .... are pasted below

You can check the network.http.* prefs on the about:config page.
Reset user set (bold) network.http prefs to the default value via the right-click context menu -> Reset.

Check at least:

You can also try to set network.http.spdy prefs to false on the about:config page.

  • network.http.spdy.enabled.v2
  • network.http.spdy.enabled.v3

I only had to reset to default the

network.http.accept-encoding (default: gzip,deflate)

and everything is now fine.
