Firefox opens in new window under current one

whenever I right-click on a link and select to open in a new window, the resulting new window always disappears under the current one. I am finding this to be rather annoying as I am used to the window opening in front of the previous one, meaning I didn't have to go chasing it in the taskbar icons.

I can't say for sure when it started happening, but I'm thinking since a previous update.

I have had a look under options, but can't find anything relating to it.

how do I fix this annoyance?

Surebrec,

Update: I found this, which you might want to try out before continuing reading: http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/how-stop-firefox-stealing-window-focus.htm

Basically that would mean the reverse for you.

If that didn't work:

Does this problem appear without you having many applications running at the same time and/or if you have pinned a lot of applications to your Taskbar in Wondows 7? Some users have reported that this problem manifests itself if the row of icons in the Taskbar simply can't make room for any icons expanding (i.e. new windows in for instance Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer).

If so, you might want to take a look at: http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-firefox-easily-fix-most-problems

my computer is configured in msconfig to start with the minimum applications required, such as drivers, internet security etc. the only things that are pinned to the taskbar are internet explorer and firefox. everything else that opens is done so by my intervention, and is not pinned to the taskbar. I tried the about:config fix, but that didn't work. I have not tried the reset option yet and I'm not entirely sure about doing so.

I also run Windows 7 and Firefox 15.0.1, with a modified start-up in Windows. I've not had this problem.

Do you have many add-ons installed? Sometimes, troubleshooting can be done by starting Firefox in safe-mode. In safe-mode, add-ons will be disabled and Firefox will run as is. If you still have the same problem, well, get back to us then. Otherwise, a reset of Firefox will ensure that any user and/or add-on related problems will go away. Just make note of what add-ons are installed and install them again, after the reset.

I've disabled all the addons and have been running firefox without them for a few hours now, and I'm still experiencing the original problem.

I am going to try resetting next, but I would just like to know what this action will affect. will it affect just the addons, or also other things, like stored passwords, favourites etc?

can someone confirm to me what exactly is reset when using the option in firefox? will it reset everything, including bookmarks and passwords?

I had exactly the same problem.

Tried the "about:config" fix without success. I then decided to disable addons one by one and found that the cause was Silverlight Flash Player. I re-enabled my other addons and everything seems to be working fine.

If you are still having problems I hope this helps.

I am still having problems, and your suggestion hasn't fixed it either.
