my downloadhelper won't actually download.

Posted

It was working just fine, but then one day it decided to stop. It ACTS like it's going to download just fine, but when that "download" bar pops up, it waits a moment, then instantly says it's "done" with 0 bytes downloaded. Then nothing pops up on the desktop either. Except once when it said it couldn't play the file.

Chosen solution

Try to clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

You can also try to delete the webappsstore.sqlite file in the Firefox Profile Folder to clear data stored in local (DOM) storage.

See also "Storage location and clearing the data":

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

Ok, so it's me again. The download helper is on the fritz again. I tried all the steps in here, and it's not helping this time. Anything else?

YouTube (Google) seems to have made changes to their servers once again and that prevents download extensions from working.

You will have to wait until the extension developer has released an update to fix this or check for a possible beta version.
