how do you restore passwords that have been cleaned?

Used a PC optimizer program and my saved passwords are gone. I have a backup from a few previous dates. Which file are the passwords located in so I can replace that new file with the older one?

Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data says they are in the key3.db and signons.sqlite files.
