a specific web site opens for only 1-2 seconds, then closes; doesn't occur in internet explorer; what to do?
It may have started after I followed some generic instructions to reduce disk utilization by deleting temp files and cookies.

Do you mean that Firefox closes (crashes)?
You can check for problems caused by a recent Flash 11.3 update and possibly downgrade to Flash 11.2 or 10.3.
