I cannot get rid of multiple tabs even though I tried Firefox solution

The tabs keep opening even though I try to close them. Hundreds of tabs open and they open faster than I can close them. Because of this problem I cannot get any information from the websites. HELP I can't use my online banking or anything else. I have done the tools troubleshooting thing where I replace all pipes with (l) %7C and it still doesn't help.

I'm not familiar with the pipes solution. Have you seen this article: Firefox repeatedly opens empty tabs or windows after you click on a link (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-repeatedly-opens-empty-tabs-...)?
