YouTube video won't release control when I click outside the video.

When I view a YouTube video in Firefox and I click on it to change the volume or pause it or etc. focus is on the video. So when I press certain keys they will effect the video, i.e. the left and right arrows shift the playback back or forward. This function is expected, however when I click outside the video this focus is not released and pressing keys either do nothing or still only effect the video. I can get focus away from the video by using the mouse to swtich tabs or minimizing/maximizing the window. Is this by design or is there an issue that needs fixing?

I've noticed this recently as well; I think it's a new behavior (BUG) and I hope to find time to search Bugzilla (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/) to see whether anyone has filed it.
