Most (but not all) icons in Bookmarks Toolbar missing when I start Firefox. View-Tools-Customize restores them until I close Firefox, then they're gone again.
This problem began yesterday. I have not recently installed any new programs.

Do you have the Roomy Bookmarks Toolbar extension?
If you have then update to the 1.3.6 version on the Versions page.

Try some maintenance on the places.sqlite database file:
- Places Maintenance: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/places-maintenance/

You can check for problems with the localstore.rdf file.
Thanks for your response, cor-el. Unfortunately, the problem persists...
I am having this problem as well. I installed Roomy Toolbar, but same thing. As the original poster said, a restore brings them back until restart,
The one thing i can add, is if you look at the bookmarks MENU, and select the toolbar, all of the bookmarks are there. They just are not being displayed on the toolbar for some reason.
This should be a pretty urgent issue
A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
cor-el, I went to the link you provided regarding the places.sqlite file. I used the Places Maintenance file as instructed. I also did the following:
If the Places database damage seems to be limited to bookmarks, for example, if certain bookmarks cannot be deleted, moved, or edited, try creating a new bookmark backup file in Firefox via "Bookmarks -> Show all (or Organize) Bookmarks -> Import and Backup -> Backup" and then restore the new backup, as an alternative to rebuilding the Places database. This may work since, in Firefox 3.0.5 and above, the bookmark backup process bypasses certain invalid places.sqlite entries that may exist and has the advantage of preserving your browsing history.
This fixed the problem temporarily. I closed Firefox after performing the above, and when I reopened all of my icons were in the Bookmarks Toolbar like normal. But when I closed and reopened a second time, the original problem recurred.

cor-el, installing the update of Roomy Bookmarks seems to have fixed the problem. I've opened and closed Firefox several times and the icons are right where they should be in the Bookmarks Toolbar every time.
Thanks for the help.
