Why Does FF Try To Connect To a Long Number On Startup

I'm using Linux Mint 11 and Firefox 10.0.2

Every time I start Firefox, no matter what I choose in preferences, Firefox seems to be trying to connect to an eight digit number instead of a web address. It just says 'go to a web site' in the address bar, connecting... on the tab and connecting to 123456778 or whatever in the status bar.

I've tried: changing the startup settings in preferences. using a different profiles.ini file doing a 'mark for complete removal' in synaptic package manager and re-installing.

I figured it out!

It only happens when I use a keyboard shortcut to open Firefox, if I click on a launcher, it's fine. It doesn't seem to matter if I change the shortcut to a different key combo. Still a bit of a mystery but, oh well, I'll just use the launcher.

Thank you for your help Vlvek. Wilfred

Hi,

It could be the startup page for Linux Mint. The number may be showing due to the name of the site not being resolved. Please note that GNU/Linux distros would be usually providing a customized Firefox. Posting in the Mint Forums would also be helpful regarding custom options.

I've tried disabling all add ons including anything to do with mint or linux. In preferences I have it set to either 'show my home page' or 'show a blank page' my home page is google.co.uk but I still get the same problem no matter which option I choose. I then get the 'can't connect to server' page. saying cant connect to server at 123456789 or some apparantly random number which is different every time. Everything else works ok. I just click the home button and I get google.co.uk.

I have now upgraded to firfox 11 and I still get exactly the same problem.

Please also try deleting the sessionstore.* files in the Firefox Profile Folder after exiting Firefox.
