How to solve Firefox update error message?
12MAR14 0428 - I am running Firefox 10.0.2 on XP SP3 but, the non-admin users keep getting this annoying message "The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again." The solution I have found to solve this on a previous version, does not work for this Firefox release. Has anyone who had this issue found a solution for this bothersome problem?

12MAR15 0642 - The following seems to get rid of the annoying message: go into about:config search for app.update.silent and toggle it to TRUE ... by default it is set to FALSE
But, will this open a security hole?

What solutions were you using before? If you restart the computer, and try to update again, do you still get the error message? It may just be a copy of Firefox is still running somwhere when the update is trying to apply

The thing is, users with administrator privilege can run the FF 10.0.2 without the update warning popping up. The non-admin users get the error message.
Over the past few days I...
- Have restarted the PC... but FF would again display the error message
- Have used revo uninstaller to remove FF, followed by cleaning the registry with Ccleaner ... restarted the machine ... reinstall FF ... switch to non-admin user account and, the warning pops up.
- Looked for the update folder to remove any files in it but, such folder does not exist.
All these suggestions are found in this forum. I have applied them but, these do not have any effect on FF 10.0.2. Remember that only non-admin user accounts have this issue.

Well, it is possible that Firefox is trying to install the Firefox 11 update, which was released yesterday.
I guess my wondering is, do you want to install the update using a non-admin account, or do you mind installing the update using an admin account, so long as non-admins don't get the error message? If the latter is the case, I would install Firefox 11 in the admin account, and see if the non-admins still get the error.
Well, let's find out if FF 11 does the trick... Will be back with the result.
I now have the latest Firefox 11.0 update but... Nope! It did not solve the issue.
The message was displayed after the add-on compatibility check.
So, let me try uninstalling the whole thing and report back.
Well, that did not work either.
12MAR14 1152 - Removed and Installed Firefox 11 twice and, so far got the same result - the update message keeps popping up on non administrator user accounts!
Is it a bug? Someone already asked why a non-admin user account is given the opportunity to attempt a software update?
