how to stop the encription program
The new encryption software Mozilla added with update 10 is terrible. It's paranoid, no way to delete the web sites it collects. I do not like being monitored & even if it's not seen by anyone but me I want it gone! It prevents me from adding a new address to the bar on top since it gets locked up. It stinks, It sucks. How can I delete the sites I've visited & why is it being kept anyway?
Chosen solution
Basically, when you visit a website that uses SSL (which is encryption) and that is evident by the https://, the Site Identity Button is added. To Delete the site information inside it (which is only on your computer and just provides information for you) you can delete your browsing history Recent History (Instructions Here) . But none of the information is going to any other websites, it simply ties in with your current Firefox History.

Hi PlumSweetUSA,
I am sorry you are having problems with firefoxThe site is community driven and answered almost entirely by volunteers. Lets not forget the software is free as in free beer. There is no email support or telephone support service.
You may however register for the email updates to these threads, you should see a link button for that top right. Emails will contain links to the question. You may also find your questions by two other methods
- search your Qs <-- clickable link -- (blue) --
(could be some lag in getting full results it shows 3 not 4 Qs at the moment) - or whilst logged in using the my contributions filter
Maybe you would like to explain exactly what it is that you think you have seen. I am not really aware of any new encryption software relating to search history.
You may find it of interest to read some of the help articles such as
Hi John99, Thanks for responding so quickly. the address bar at the top of the page is where you can type in the exact address of an https:// site. Some web pages, including this one. Click on this link pls. & scroll down to read the description of the "blue" highlight words" & what it means. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Site%20Identity%20Button The encryption program is called a "Site Identity Button". It's new since I updated to the v. 10. If you see the blue highlighted page name & left click on it you'll see what I'm talking about. It says this site has been encrypted to prevent eavesdropping. Clicking on the "more information? button brings up various parts of this program. You'll see a list of all the web pages you've gone to, how many times & a lot of other info. I don't need or want this & see possible problems with privacy from the company that is gathering all of my web browsing info. It's not paranoia if what you fear is real. Anyway there's no way to delete this growing list of visited web pages & no way to turn it off that I could find. The biggest frustration is that in order to go to another page I have to close this page & open a new one because the address bar is locked when this encryption thing is "protecting" it. I dislike this feature very much. Different web pages prompt different companies doing the info gathering on a particular page. Why is this needed? NO one else uses my computer. I know first hand, for sure that some emails & social media communications are being monitored by govt. agencies. I have a tracker that gives me reports on any email I choose. It is a fact that if a subject line uses "certain trigger words" it's picked up immediately & diverted to computer systems searching for groups of folks complaining about the govt. or planning anything. This is a fact. So, I don't want anyone, not anyone for any reason monitoring & capturing personal information on web sites I visit. This so called encrypted software stores my passwords, sign in names, times I've visited that page, & a lot of other very personal info. I don't need to store this info so I certainly don't want any encryption program provided by people who aren't known & whose intentions are not clear. Please help me if you can. Thanks. Sandy
Why do you click that Site Identity Button button if you are not interested in the information that it displays?
You only need to click that button if you want confirmation that you've opened a link the the right server.
If you click "More Information" then you can more easily access that data then via Tools > Page Info or via the right-click context menu on a web page.

I open it to try to find a way to get rid of it. with the page locked up i can't add another http address or go back to a previous page. this encryption thing locks the page up. I didn't ask for it, i don't want any monitoring by anyone for any reason. how can i get rid of it? it has nothing to do with my search history. it's the program mozilla added to the latest update. I have no idea who is gathering my personal info in this program but i want it stopped.Deleting all history doesn't delete it in this encryption program so it looks like it will ocntinue to gather pages, sign in names, passwords, cookies, etc for perpituity. What's the point. How do I opt out?
Pls. try this link For more information, you can visit the following page(Site Identity Button):

The problem is the site identity button. I don't want this program attached to my web pages. I don't want any monitoring unless I initiate it. Can you help please? I've gotten so many different responses but none are on point. I know this is volunteer & believe me I appreciate all & any help. I love Mozilla Firefox over all other browsers I've used, including glitches. This site identity button isn't something I need. I opened it to try to use some options for disabling the program but there are no real options for user control.; Please, any help will be greatly appreciated but it's not a history problem. It's inconvenient & unnecessary for me. The only eavesdropping is being done by our own gov. & I know this for a fact. I don't need any other questionable info gathering devices put on my computer. It's the attached program Mozilla put in this latest update. 10. Thanks
That is not a separate program and it wasn't added with Firefox 10. It is a standard part of Firefox for many years now starting with Firefox 3.0.
Hmmm, it just showed up on my computer recently & I've been using firefox for years. Is there any way to disable it then?

That isn't monitoring. It only shows that you have an encrypted (secure) HTTPS connection or a normal HTTP connection (This website does not supply identity information) and also allows to see what other data Firefox has stored from that domain and some permissions in case you want to make changes or delete data.
You can easily remove stored data by looking at the Clear Recent History link that I posted above.
