If I want to keep my FF bookmarks current with imports from another browser will it duplicate bookmarks every time?

I flip between Firefox and Chrome, so I like to keep the bookmarks on both browsers as current as possible.

I'm wondering if, whenever, I do imports if it will duplicate the bookmarks already installed?

Yes, importing a bookmarks.html file into Firefox would result in duplicate bookmarks, but there is a Firefox add-on called CheckPlaces that will locate and delete duplicates.

Xmarks is the only program that I have heard about that will synchronize between Chrome and Firefox.

I just checked out both of your suggestions. They both look great. 

Now I can't decide which to use/try first. Do you have a preference between the 2?

If it helps, I have bookmarked a page on a browser, then regret not having it on one of the others when I use them. So, maybe, Xmarks would be better for me?

I have never used another browser than Firefox for much of anything since 2003, so I have never been in the position of needing to synchronize bookmarks cross-browser. Xmarks has been around a number of years now, but lately that program has been causing problems for Firefox users since about the time Firefox 9.0 was released - it might be alright on Firefox 3.6 though. It would sure be a lot easier that importing bookmarks files between two different browsers and then in Firefox getting rid of the duplicates which would be over 95% of them. And I didn't use Chrome long enough to even get to the point of bothering to import any bookmarks, so I don't know if a similar add-on exists for Chrome.

I dumped it quick due to the updater that ran all the time and the fact that it installed an updater extension in my default Firefox installation. At my age I don't need a big-brother looking over my shoulder all the time watching out for me - I am the big-brother in my family and my "little brother" has 3 grandkids already.

I use Chrome mostly, but still hit Firefox quite a bit, hence the questions.

Can't remember the last time I used IE--although I do try to keep up with the current version.

Personally, I think Xmarks is for me. Hopefully they fix the bugs soon for Firefox 9+

Now, if they could come up with a way to...I don't know..."auto-sync" (?) bookmarks to prevent duplicates and save us the time from having to import/export....i.e.--duping my Bookmarks Bar, subfolders, etc. and just tag with GC , FF or whoever to show where they were originally tagged....

I'm not as lazy as I sound :p Just thinking out loud...that would be a fantastic evolution for Xmarks though.....hmmmm.......
