How to stop FIREFOX and Downloadhelper popping up every time with starting browser

I adore Firefox, but lately it makes starting annoying. FIREFOX pops up with al kind of suggestions, and the same holds for DOWNLOADHELPER. I don't like unasked for popups even from FIREFOX. How do I refrain FIREFOX to alter my "blank page" as as starter again and again in FIREFOX page??? [I change it every time back to "blank page", but is to no avail. Rien Buter
