Firefox won't open, upgrade, or uninstall, What do I do?

Lily711 replied

I had firefox 8 dowloaded on my main user account. I have backed up that info. I went to dowload firefox on another user account on the computer because the one I dowloaded from my account which was admin account wasn't showing up as available. When I tried to dowload firefox on new account it went to download firefox 9 and said that an upgrade needed to be made and the computer had to be restarted. I have restarted the computer over 10 times and gone back and forth between accounts but neither will open firefox now. I even tried to uninstall firefox so I could reinstall and then reinstall my backups but it won't let me uninstall, that same message appears that says "Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Firefox .Do you want to reboot now?" then it gives choice of yes or no, and I have tried clicking yes and restarting and have tried clicking no and doing manual restart as well as full shut down for several minutes before turning the comp back on. PLEASE HELP!!!

Ok I just talked to a comp friend of mine and I uninstalled the whole thing by doing this "Go to your \Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\ directory and delete it and all of its contents" and then going to add remove programs, and deleting it as it came up as in had been uninstalled then and also delted all previous icons. Now I am going to try and redownload it and then transfer in my backup from previous firefox.

Hi,

Has the account you used to download and install the Firefox-update administrator privileges?

yes both accounts have admin privileges

I know this problem.

Try to manually download and install Firefox 9 from this page
