Firefox 3.6.24 runs fine on windows XP machine (Dell 620 work laptop), loads majority of websites fine. Stalls maybe once a week or so, despite only rebooting once a month if I can get away with it (boot process is 22 agonizing minutes).

Firefox 3.6.24 hangs and stalls repeatedly on Windows 7 machines (Toshiba Satellites L655 and C655, both purchased new 8 months ago) even though they are rebooted at least twice a week. I've removed as much of the Toshiba crapware as I can. I have no malware running, no viruses I can tell (just finished a scan with Malwarebytes and a scan with Norton - nada). When FF hangs all other internet connections are FINE (MSIE works just fine). I've checked all plugins, and the sites that are killing FF have no video that I can detect. about 50% of the time it happens when I am trying to navigate away from the page (touching the back button or clicking in the address box), the rest of the time it happens when I am trying to scroll down (or up) the page, so I suspect it is some process that is running in the background that hangs while I am reading.

Coincidentally, AT&T sent me a new router two months ago. But as I said, MSIE isn't affected, nor is my StreamingNetflix / BlueRay player - and the three laptops never hang at the same time.

This is really driving me nuts, and although FF does recover my open tabs, it is really irritating to wait for 4-6 minutes while Windows kills off FF for me every hour or two.

It used to be only once a week or so (like with the Dell), but the problem has gotten MUCH worse in the past two months.

I've seen no proof that upgrading 7 or 8 will resolve this issue (my ONLY issue with FF). Google has too much power and information already for me to switch to Chrome, and I detest IE, so I really would love it if my Firefox would run the way it did when I bought the laptop 8 months ago.

Could this be related to Win7? Could it be related to the Toshiba install?

Help!

Upgrade your browser to Firefox 8 and check

I'm still looking for a more complete answer. "Upgrading to Firefox 8" doesn't tell me what the actual problem is, nor does it guarantee that the problem will be resolved (certainly not from what I've read online).

But thanks for responding. I appreciate the time.

one possibility is your extensions are slowing things down. ad-block-plus, for example, has been known to cause some slowdowns and can be fixed by simply uninstalling and re-installing. this may not be what you're dealing with, but might be worth a try.
