I keep getting that I cannot connect to the firefox proxy server when I know my connection to the internet is OK i now have to use BT s internet browzer why is that?

A few days ago I started getting a problem getting into the internet on firefox which I had set up for nearly 3 years now on my desktop laptop I keep getting a message saying that I my computer cannot locate the proxy server for firefox please make sure I am connected to the internet, I know I am as I can get into Yahooh and I also have a small netbook which is connected to firefox with no problem,I cannot seem to get into firefox from this main laptop that I use I have looked at all my settings,when I click on an email to go on any company I deal with the samething happens cant get into the site and read what I need to it's so annoying can any one help please

Check the connection settings.

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then select "No Proxy" if the default "Use the system proxy settings" setting doesn't work.
