Thanks so much for your help. A really simple solution, but I just couldn't figure it out on my own.

thanks for your solution. it worked, but, regrettably, the gmail icon from my location bar showed up as an internet explorer icon! when i clicked the i.e. icon, it opened up my gmail inbox. i tried, via properties on the i.e. icon, to change it, but only got microsoft's stupid, unrecognizable icons.

any advice?

i have i.e. 8 as a downloaded program in the event of a ff problem, but only use ff 3.6.24 and love it.

windows xp pro, sp 3, 4 megs of ram, lenovo x201 thinkpad.

Set Firefox as your >>default browser<< and that icon will become a Firefox icon and open with Firefox.
