How can I insert icons in pin app tabs that are blank?

After automatic update from Firefox (removing suggested plug-ins slowing system down) no icons appear in some pin apps -- just a dotted rectangle. These used to have a "folder" icon, at least - now nothing. Can customized icons be inserted in these?
