Go to http://www.united.com or http://www.ual.com and try to click on anything. (Hint: nothing is responsive; cursor does not change shape as it hover over different elements; etc.)

Start Firefox in Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Unfortunately, Firefox would hang indefinitely any time I tried to start it in safe mode. I ended up creating a new profile and downloading all the extensions I had. That made the website work...so, something in the configuration seriously damaged things.
