FireFox 4.xx freezes when ever I open a file or dialog box?

In either FireFox 4.x or 6.x, FF freezes when ever I try to open a file or open a dialog box such as if you were wanting to upload a file, when opening the file search box to find file to upload and the dialog box appears FF freezes (sometimes the dialog box never appears, just freezes). I even wait for quite a while, then I open task manager it says FF not responding.

FireFox 3.5 works just fine, but now I have certain applications such as gmail that keeps warning me that my browser is out dated.

I have also tried deleting old profile and creating new one. Also un-installed FF and re-installed from scratch and removed all plugins too. Still freezes when I try to open any kind of dialog box such as: File >> Open File or when ever I try to upload a file and the dialog box needs to open, it freezes.

I am running windows XP

Thanks for the reply, I have been on those reference pages. I've tried many things. like no plugins, delete profile and create new, remove FF and re-install. I'm lost as to why this is not working. When I got to file the open file it locks up. The hour glass on the pointer just sits there and nothing, locks up. I just tried FF 7 and it's doing the same thing. As of now I can only use FF 3.5

Any more suggestions please!!
