When I go to a website multiple times that is very important to me and would rather just click on the icon for that website, I don't know the protocol to follow in order to make a shortcut to my desktop for that website.

Simple. Just right-click an empty area on your desktop > Create new shortcut> and copy and paste the url into the "location."
