When I right-click the toolbar and go to customize, there is no "new tab" icon, but there is 2 "Bookmarks" icon. How do I get the "new tab" icon to add to the toolbar? I had the "new tab" icon on my toolbar when I upgraded to 5.0 and when I tried to move it, it disappeared and I noticed 2 bookmark icons in the icon list. I have tried disabling all addons and the problem persisted. I have upgraded all addons .

Try dragging the [+\ next to a last tab to the right end of the tabs bar or up to the navigation bar. At the right it becomes a big blue Plus, on the Navigation bar it looks like a bottle of black ink with a plus sign (if you pass your inkblot tests it might look like a file folder with middle tab)

Picture and what to do in item #4 ...

You can make Firefox 6.0 look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 6.0, look like 3.6). Whether or not you make changes, you should be aware of what has changed and what you have to do to use changed or missing features.

Thanks for the reply. I will give you a "Solved It" because you pointed me in the correct direction.

What blocked me was the add-on "Tab Mix Plus"

My fix follows:

Disable "Tab Mix Plus". Restart Firefox.

Mouse Click on: View/Toolbars/Customize The tab bar should appear if it was not there before. On the right side of the tab bar is a plus(+) symbol. Drag and drop this to where you want to see the "New Tab" icon. Click Done.

Enable "Tab Mix Plus". Restart Firefox.

Thanks again for the reply :)

This is an edit: I looked again and you did not just point me in the correct direction, you flat out solved it in the 1st part of the post. Kudos

You're welcome. What did TMP do lock your toolbars?

I would have left it as done without reenabling TMP and I would never be able to justify its use. I suspect you are missing a lot of tab handling features available and easier to use in a few much smaller extensions and missing out on learning to use builtin Firefox configuration variables as opposed to renamed options.

TMP has its own tab bar handler so I was unable to drag and drop the + symbol at the end of the tab bar

TMP allows me to place the tab bar on the bottom of the window.

It also has additional menu items when you right-click on an empty space on the window. One menu item is to duplicate the tab to a new tab or another instance of Firefox, which allows me to keep the original tab intact as a place holder while I follow different links/pages in the new area, and when I am done researching, I close the tab or new window, and am back to the original tab.

I can also open a foreground or background tab on a link as I need from the menu.
