How do I upload a file to an ftp site?

I accessed an ftp site of a magazine I am submitting an ad to, with their permission, using their username and password. I can see the file directory. When I try to drag and drop my file there, it won't upload, it only tries to open or save the file on my computer. Is there a specific tool needed for uploading files? Thanks
