My system specs...

  • Intel Core 2 Quad 9550 running at 3.2GHz
  • 8GB of OCZ DDR2 6400
  • PNY GTX 460SSC
  • 4 WD Caviar Black SATA HD's totalling 4TB
  • LG Blu-ray Burner
  • Plextor DVD Burner
  • 1000W Corsair Modular Power Supply
  • Corsair Obsidian 700D Case

When I have Firefox open on the second monitor (not the one designated as my main monitor) and I try to open any drop down menu (including bookmark folders in the bookmark toolbar, the options menu or the bookmark menu) they flicker and disappear, leaving the outline of the menu behind and allowing me to still select something from the menu. I've attached multiple screenshot links below.

This happens every time, no matter which monitor I have designated as my main monitor. I did a fresh install of Windows 7 (x64) (low leveling the hard drive first), updated all of my drivers per manufacturers websites and Windows Update, installed Firefox 5.0.1 with no Add Ons and it still happened. If I swap which monitor is my main, the problem follows the secondary monitor. I was running an ATI Radeon HD 4870 and suspected the card (because ATI blows and won't stand behind one of their professional workstation cards that just caught fire in my PC and was less than a year and half old), so I went out and bought a new PNY GTX 460SSC card, downloaded the latest drivers and the problem persists. I rolled back my video drivers by one full release (from v275.xxx to v274.xxx) and the problem persists. I also just found out the menus are corrupted in Add Ons too, namely FireFTP menus when you drop them down.

@helliax...thanks for the suggestion. I'll install 5.0.1 again and give it a try. I went back to 3.6.19...but, boy do I miss sync!

Thanks helliax! It works perfectly now...even with all of my add-ons! I really appreciate it!

( found this solution on the mozilla bugtracker:)

On Windows 7 enabling aero fixed this for me (with hardware acceleration enabled).

I have this problem on my dual monitor system. I found a solution that works. Click Start, Run, sysdm.cpl

In the resulting System Properties window, click the Advanced tab, then click settings under Performance. You will have one of four radio buttons enabled. Here what I did. I enabled "Adjust for For Best Appearance" and clicked apply. I then unchecked the box "Show Shadow under windows" and clicked apply again. Problem solved.
