How do I stop the animations in the Chrome? They are wasteful of resources and slow down the user interface, particularly when the user interface is already being slow due to the non-multiprocessing nature of Firefox. It's like throwing cement on a tortoise.

The animation of the tab bar has a pref browser.tabs.animate related to this and can be set to false.
