Why are my favorite blog feeds not highlighted when new content is available?

I read many blogs, but cannot be bothered to open up each one to see if there is new content available. Therefore, I read these blogs in a news feed, not a bookmark, that way, the blog title is highlighted when new content is available. I found the place to subscribe to a page's feed, but it appears to be a bookmark, not a feed.

The "RSS Feed" button was moved from the location bar to the Bookmarks menu because not very many people actually use it. It is the same button though.

I know where the feed button is located, and I found each feed that I subscribed to. But there is no way to know which feed contains new content, and is therefore useless. As they are listed now, they are the same as any other bookmark, and I would have to open each one to see if a blog was updated. In IE, each blog title turns to bold print when it was been updated. Is this option available in Firefox?
