Upgrade lost all search engines. Where is Google, Creative Commons, etc.?

more options

Upgraded from 4.0.1 to 5.0 and first I noticed all my cookies were blown away (separate issue). Next I tried doing a search only to learn, much to my dismay, that Google wasn't listed as a search engine and in fact I had no search engines at all. Gone. In a flash.

Furthermore, I understood FF5 was to have search capability directly in the URL bar. This is not the case but the lack thereof may be indeed due to the former issue.

Not a smooth upgrade.

Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit, SP1.

What I did (or close to it, YMMV, Caveat Executor):

(1) Backup &/or Export Bookmarks (do this in each account)

(2) Export NoScript Whitelist (or any other config files you might have; again in each account)

(3) Uninstall Firefox

(4) cd /d C:\"Program Files (x86)"

(5) Move .\"Mozilla Firefox" .\MozFox.tmp

(6) cd /d C:\Users\user1\AppData\Local

(7) Move .\Mozilla .\Mozilla.tmp

(8) cd ..\Roaming

(9) Move .\Mozilla .\Mozilla.tmp

(10) cd /d C:\Users\user2\AppData\Local & repeat steps 7-10 as necessary

(11) install Firefox

(12) import bookmarks

(13) import whitelist and other config data

(14) eventually delete temp directories once I'm sure I don't need them.

So far all is well. Firefox 3.x to 4.0 was painless and wonderfully quick -- great upgrade. Firefox 4.0 to 5.0 painless on everything but this one system. Vista, Mac OS X, GNU/Linux upgrades went swimmingly. Could be Win7 related, PC related, user related...dunno.
