Why does my dowload manager not display all my downloads?

Hi, sometimes my download manager displays the download and then stores it in the download box until I clear it or log off, however sometimes it does not show anything. I have downloaded pdf and it did download but did not show it. Secondly, I tried to download divx and a few other video related software and could not do it in Firefox, I had to do it in Explorer. I just got this new Toshiba laptop, on my last computer I had no problems with Firefox in Ubuntu or Windows. This is the first time I am using Windows 7 Home. Maybe it is 7?

Make sure that you do not use Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox to clear the Download history if you close Firefox.

If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then check the settings for Firefox.
