If I type something in the Awesome Bar, it doesn't give suggestions. I've tried the safe mode, but no changes...

I use Firefox 4.0.1, but I also had the problem with 4.0 and 5.0 (beta). I use Windows 7 (64-bit).

Disable "AVG Safe Search" it causes location bar problems like the ability to use "Enter" can be one symptom among many other problems such as crashes and hangs. It is listed in Problematic extensions - MozillaZine Knowledge Base and it should be blocked in the block list. You should follow the instructions there to reinstall "AVG Free" without the "Link Scanner" component so it won't continue to be a problem with new profiles or new versions of Firefox. The pay for version of "AVG" anti-virus has an option to turn the 'feature' off.

Don't know if that will solve your problem, but try that first.

Safe mode would have turned off the extension so that is not the immediate problem.

  1. Make sure you are not in Private Browsing
  2. Make sure you are recording History and not clearing it
