I have an acer aspire netbook running windows xp. A few days ago I started getting error messages when trying to connect to a bookmark or tab under firefox. After getting nowhere I tried system restore a few times. I since cannot connect to firefox.
This may have started after an update. I was getting a message at just below the toolbar at top of screen, large paragraph. It happened every time I clicked any tab to go to something I had bookmarked or on a toolbar. It had an options tab, but when I clicked on it I had no idea what to do with it. I tried system restore several time going back to earlier dates each time, and I cannot get firefox to open at all. If I click on a desktop icon with a firefox logo it says it can't be found. I am able to connect to internet explorer and have a good internet connection on the laptop, and am able to connect to internet and firefox on my desktop. I appreciate anyone's time and assistance.

Could you please do the following.
Go to Download Firefox 4.0.1 and download a fresh installation file to the desktop. If necessary, download the file with IE8 and choose to save it to your desktop when you see the prompt.
Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to "Mozilla Firefox" and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (don't checkmark the box).
Then reboot and delete the folder called "Mozilla Firefox" at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
Finally run the installation file you downloaded to the desktop earlier.
Your bookmarks, customizations etc., are maintained in a different location and will become available to you again once you complete the installation.
