I haven't seen that mentioned as new feature in Firefox 4.0, and in Firefox 3.x versions the "scanning for viruses" message in the downloads window would just continue running until the message was shut down or the downloads window was closed - when an appropriate anti-virus program wasn't installed.

That is a very good warning provided by the Download Statusbar extension. Something like that should been built into Firefox. I filed this Bug report a couple of years ago, about the lack of a warning like that.

I have looked everywhere that I can think of to find a list of IOfficeAntiVirus providers (as mentioned in the Bug report) that will work with Firefox, so I can't answer that for you.

You might want to ask the developer of the Download Statusbar extension about it. He might know which AV programs are compatible with the Windows API that Firefox uses for the download scan.

Found the solution at: http://dlstatusbar.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=dlscan&thread=704&page=1#2555

Goto Tools menu - Addons, in the addons window find download statusbar, highlight it. click the options button. Goto Virus Scan tab and type in/locate path to anti-virus scan program
