How can I upgrade to Firefox 4.0 and keep all my bookmarks and history? Is this possible?

This may be an easy question but I'd like to know how to keep my bookmarks and add-ons when I upgrade from 3.6 to 4.0? Also is there a way to keep my browsing history? Thanks a lot for the help.

When you upgrade to Firefox 4 it automatically uses your existing bookmarks, history, passwords and other user data.

With add-ons, it will check to see if they are compatible with Firefox 4. For those that are not compatible it can check for updates to them, if none are found the add-on will be disabled.

Though not comprehensive, the following link gives details of compatibility for many add-ons, those shown as compatible with Firefox 4.0.* or 4.2.a1pre whoule work on Firefox 4 - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/compatibility/report

Thanks a lot--that sounds pretty easy. I thought I had to backup a profile? Or is that only when I want to install it on a new computer?

You should always make regular backups of your profile, but to update to Firefox 4 all you have to do is install the update by using the "Check for updates"" option in the help menu.
