I installed Windows 7 on my PC. I reinstalled Firefox 3 from scratch. I saved my profile from the previous instance, but Firefox doesn't seem to want to see it. Can I fix, or do I just need to start over?

It will probably be easier to create a new profile and then copy the necessary files from the old profile into the new profile. For details see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Recovering+important+data+from+an+old+profile
