I had problems with my laptop last week (not booting), and I managed to save some stuff from the hard drive before re-installing Windows. Now that I'm up and running again, I'm not sure how to import passwords since Firefox seems to have changed quite a bit. I've managed to restore my bookmarks, but that's it.

Also, is there a way I can import my old browsing history?

Many thanks. x

Chosen solution

Yes, that location is not the Firefox profile folder, but the location of the template folder with the files to create a new new profile.

See:

Go to: Control Panel > Folder Options > "View" tab > under "Hidden files and folders", select "Show hidden files and folders"
To see the file extensions of all files uncheck the box "Hide extensions for known file types"

  • XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\
  • Vista/Windows 7: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

See:

You need the files key3.db and signons.sqlite to restore the passwords.

That's the problem. Since installing Firefox 4, the "Profiles" folder doesn't seem to exist anymore, so there's no key3.db or singons.sqlite file to replace with the old one.

When I get to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox, the sub-folders are components, defaults, extensions, searchplugins, and uninstall. Am I looking in the wrong place or something?
