My firefox won't open at all on my user id on Windows 7, it keeps saying 'Firefox is allready running but isn't responding' etc.
I install firefox normally, on my user id on Windows 7. But it won't open. It keeps saying 'Firefox is allready running but isn't answering. A new window can't be opened until all of firefox' processes have been shut down or the system rebootet.
This is a translation of the text as my user language is finnish.
I've also checked my fathers user id on this computer, there the firefox works, no problem.
I suspect the problem was born when I tried to take an old firefox backup into use. I think I did it wrong... Or, the backup was to old.

Make sure that the profile with default=1 in profiles.ini is pointing to an existing profile folder.
If you restored the profile folder and not the corresponding file profiles.ini then you need to use the Profile Manager to create a new profile and choose the location of the restored profile as the location of the new profile (Choose Folder).
cor-el, this is the same problem several others are reporting, and to which you had offered a similar answer to me, that does not work. There are now at least five separate posts from people with the same problem. And as I replied to your suggestion a couple days ago, cannot uninstall and do a clean reinstall since the uninstall wizard is stymied by the same "copy already running" message. Thus there are by more than a dozne who have reported on or clicked they have the same problem.
You can try to move the entire Firefox folder to a different location to make Firefox create a new file structure for the profile folder.
- Vista/Windows 7: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\
- "Application Data" in XP/Win2K and "AppData" in Vista/Windows 7 are hidden folders.
- Use %APPDATA% in the File name field
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders
Go to: Control Panel > Folder Options > "View" tab > under "Hidden files and folders", select "Show hidden files and folders"
To see the file extensions of all files uncheck the box "Hide extensions for known file types"
